Shankerdas brings smile to ‘Fufu Water’
“Philanthropist Dr. Kishore Shankerdas has refreshed the hopes and aspirations of ‘Fufu Water’ and Madonke villages in the Koya Rural District through the construction of two bridges which were commissioned last Friday. Both links have significant links within the community according to the member of parliament Claude D. M. Kamanda, who explained that the one at Fufu Water linking Sherbro town road is the shortest way to Fogbo, a village rich in sea products and salt deposit. The bridge, he went on was cut off from vehicular traffic for over 30 years, while the other at Madonke is a vital link between the Western Area Rural District and the Port Loko district.
History has it that in 2002 the British Army fell into the bridge during their operation and rehabilitated it using boards and timber, which have all in recent times got rotten. This situation prompted the MP and Councillor Doris K. Harding to appeal for help from Dr. Kishore Shankerdas, the Honorary Consul-General of Japan, who eventually consented, and with the help of some staff of Shankerdas went into action and constructed both bridges. He referred to the cost involved as simply ‘substantial.’ …Addressing dignitaries and inhabitants who graced both occasions, Dr. Kishore Shankerdas said ‘what we have done is part of our corporate social responsibility’, stressing that the thanks people showered on him should be directed to God who made it possible for him to execute the work and lauded the youths for their cooperation during the exercise.” read more from Awoko Newspaper.
